Glass Fused Steel LINER Tank (GFS Tank)

Glass Fused to Steel (GFS) tanks, also known as Glass Lined Steel (GLS) tanks, indeed represent a premium technology in the tank market. The fusion of glass and high-tensile mild steel combines the best properties of both materials. Steel provides strength and flexibility, while glass offers corrosion resistance. This fusion eliminates the need for painting in the future, as the tank is inherently protected against corrosion.

The design standards followed for Glass-Fused-to-Steel (GFS) tanks, particularly for firewater storage tanks, are outlined in two key specifications:

1. AWWA D103-09This standard is published by the American Water Works Association (AWWA) and provides guidelines for the design, construction, and inspection of bolted steel tanks for water storage.

2. FM 4020Developed by FM Global, a leading global insurance company with a focus on property insurance and risk management, FM 4020 outlines standards for the design and construction of fire protection water storage tanks. This standard includes requirements for tank materials, design specifications, seismic considerations, corrosion protection, and performance testing, all aimed at ensuring the effectiveness and reliability of firewater storage tanks.

PROCESS & TECHNOLOGY

A brief process of creating Glass-Fused-to-Steel (GFS) tanks involves several precise steps to ensure the quality and integrity of the finished product:

      1. Nut & Bolt holes & manhole drilling/punching

      2. Shot blasting process

      3. Enamelling Process

      4. Quality check

Here’s an overview of the typical quality check process –

  • Spark Test
  • DFT
  • Impact test
  • Visual test (for liner)
  • Light test (for liner)

5. Installation process-

The prepared panels are bolted together using hot-dipped galvanized high-tensile nuts & bolts, which are selected for their strength and resistance to corrosion. External & internal PP caps on nut & bolts are applied to protect from environmental factors, corrosion & tampering.

Leakproof by –

  • Internal Liner: an internal membrane liner is installed inside the tank to further enhance its water-holding capabilities. This membrane liner acts as a main additional barrier against corrosion and helps maintain water quality.

Types of Roofs We offer-

      1. Zincalume/FBEC Dome Roof

      2. Zincalume/FBEC/ GFS Conical Roof

      3. Flat Liner Roof

      4. Double membrane liner roof

      5. GFS fixed leakproof roof

Overall, these meticulous processes and components work together to create high-quality Glass-Fused-to-Steel tanks that are durable, reliable, and resistant to corrosion, making them suitable for various industrial, municipal, and agricultural applications.
